Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court has directed TS and AP governments and the Centre to spell out their stand on marriage of poor Muslim girls with aged Arab nationals.

Justice S.V. Bhatt was dealing with a petition by Shaik Chand Basha of Prakasam district. While pointing out that the qazis are playing a key role in the marriages, the judge felt that there was need to curb their activities by enacting law.

The judge expressed displeasure for not considering a suggestion by a division bench of the High Court in 2006 for amending Section 2 of the Qazis Act, 1880.

While directing the respondents to spell out their stand on Muslim girls marriages with foreigners, the judge posted the hearing to October 30.

HC tells Police board to hear plea on quota
The Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday directed the chairman of Telangana State Police Recruitment Board not to go ahead with the recruitment of sub-inspectors without considering the objections raised by a petitioner.

Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy granted the interim order while dealing with a petition by M Ramesh seeking to declare the action of the board as illegal.

The petitioner brought to the notice of the court that the board was not considering the 2 per cent norm for sportspersons and the 3 per cent NCC quota. He said that though he had raised objections, the authorities notified the preliminary list of selected candidates.

While issuing notices to the board, the judge directed the board not go ahead with the selection process and posted the case to Monday.

AP says take TS off Polavaram, NGT seeks stand
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Wednesday granted two weeks to the Telangana state, Chhattisgarh and Odisha governments to spell out their stand on a petition filed by AP government, seeking to delete the Telangana state government as a party to the Polavaram project petitions.

The NGT bench, headed by chairman Justice Swatantra Kumar was dealing with applications by the AP government with regard to the Polavaram project and an NGO from TS, Readiness for Empo-werment Through Legi-timate Action (RELA), seeking a stay on the project.

When the bench asked counsels for the three states whether they had filed a counter affidavit on the application of the AP government, they replied in the negative. Counsel for RELA told the bench that it had filed its reply on the objections raised by the AP government.

He submitted that urgent action wsa re-quired as the AP government is undertaking the construction on a war-footing and cutting large number of trees without alternatives. Many locals are displaced by the project.

He told the bench that all these activities are taking place in violation of the environment clearance conditions laid down in 2015.

While asking state governments to file their affidavits, the bench adjourned the case for two weeks.
