Hyderabad: A woman collapsed while the police were clearing protestors of the Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) from the Hyderabad collectorate. She was rushed to the Osmania General Hospital, where she was declared dead.

On learning about the incident, MRPS activists gathered at OGH, which led panic among the patients at the emergency and out-patient departments. When doctors tried to shift Bharati’s body to the mortuary for an autopsy, MRPS workers stopped them and demanded immediate justice.

Members of the MRPS and the leaders of other organisations raised slogans against the government, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and the Hyderabad Police, holding them responsible for the woman’s death.

V. Satyanarayana, the DCP of the South Zone, visited OGH and tried to reason with the protesters. Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari was faced with slogans demanding justice when he arrived at the hospital.

Former Deputy Chief Minister T. Rajaiah, legislator N. Odelu, K. Jana Reddy, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, V. Hanumantha Rao, K. Pushpaleela, and TD leaders Motkupalli Narsimhulu, and Sandra Venkata Veeraiah also visited the hospital.

When Mr Srihari told the MRPS workers that the government was considering calling an all-party meeting, leaders of the Opposition demanded a quick decision. Manda Krishna Madiga, the founding president of the MRPS, who was in Maharashtra, said that he would rush to the city and announce the organisation’s future plans. Meanwhile, the Hyderabad police released a video to the media explained how the woman had collapsed and denying allegations that they were responsible for her death.
