Hyderabad: In a major operation to zero-in on a notorious chain-snatcher, who strikes only during the festivals, the Cyberabad police deputed more than 100 policemen all over the state. The decision comes after a lone bike-borne chain-snatcher went on a looting spree on Wednesday night in KPHB and Miyapur.
In less than 15 minutes, the snatcher targeted three women within 3 km and looted 12 tola gold. The police said that the same accused had targeted women during the Dasara and Diwali seasons in 2017. The police added that the snatcher is targeting women as Sankranti preparations are on in the city. Earlier, the police had declared a Rs1 lakh reward on information about the ‘festive snatcher’ who is involved in 18 cases in less than two months in KPHB, Chandanagar and Miyapur.
S. Ravi Kumar, Miyapur ACP, said that special teams have been deputed to trace the snatcher. The snatcher had entered into the city from Sangareddy district. He targeted a woman at Phase IX in KPHB at around 7.45 pm.
K. Naga Rathnam, 65, was returning home after purchasing groceries from the supermarket. While passing through Bachpan Play School, the bike-borne snatcher looted her three tola fold chain and sped away.
Around 10 minutes later, another woman fell prey to the same snatcher in Vasanth Nagar under the KPHB police station limits. Dasari Saroja, 60, was walking at around 7.50 pm when the snatcher approached her and took away four tola gold chain. The CCTV footages recovered showed that the snatcher was wearing a check shirt.
Less than 10 minutes later, the same snatcher looted gold chain from a woman in Miyapur, who was putting rangoli in front of the house. Srilatha, 35, a housewife residing at Venkataramana Colony in Gokul flats, lost her five tola gold chain.
