Hyderabad: Anjani Kumar, who served as Telangana’s Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) for the last two years, took over as the new Hyderabad Police Commissioner at the Commissioner’s office on Monday. An alumni of University of Delhi, Anjani Kumar was awarded President's Police Medal for Distinguished Services and also awarded Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Services  besides bestowed with Internal Security Medal for working in Naxal affected area.

Mr. Kumar, also called as a ‘no-nonsense cop’, has had a career spanning over 28 years. The officer has witnessed it all, from addressing the problems of Naxalites to establishing people-friendly initiatives in the new state of Telangana.

Speaking to this paper, he said that in the recent survey report of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has rated the youngest state, Telangana as number one among the others in implementation and usage of computers and other technologies for crime prevention and detection. “This is the first city to implement the law on CC cameras in every nook and corner of the city. My dream is to set Hyderabad as a role model for other cities in the country. As a serving cop, I have been witnessing the changes of nature and the dark side of the society, but I also see 50 beautiful colors as well. Reduction of crime to a bare minimum level with the help of technology is a dream I have as a cop” he said, adding that the challenges are thrilling, and that makes the work very interesting. It makes you innovative and look forward to something new.

Every day is a new challenge for a police officer, because every crime is a new challenge. Talking about his journey, he said, “It has been 28 years since I became an IPS officer, from the 1990 batch. My professional life started from Jangaon, where I was posted as an ASP, the place was a subdivision of the Warangal district. This was when the entire state was engulfed with red-terror of Naxalism. My life has been professionally very satisfying and I express my gratitude towards the Chief Minister of Telangana, Mr. KCR.”

Speaking about the women safety, he said, “a society can be called civilized only when women claim that they safe in it. We as a department will ensure that we meet the International standards pertaining to safety of women in our state and make sure that the city is becomes a citizen friendly policing.”
“We are privileged to be in Telangana, where our police is moving forward with public cooperation,” he said.
