Scrutiny of nomination papers today

A total of five candidates filed nominations for Rajya Sabha elections for three seats from Telangana when the deadline ended at 3 p.m. on Monday.

They included three candidates of TRS -- J. Santosh Kumar, Banda Prakash and Badugula Lingaiah Yadav -- former Union Minister Balram Naik of Congress and an Independent belonging to Shramshakti Party, Jajula Bhaskar.

The TRS and Congress candidates filed two sets of nominations each while the Independent filed only one set.

The scrutiny of papers will take place on Tuesday and the withdrawal on Wednesday. The candidates left in the fray will be announced on Wednesday itself.

The TRS candidates went in a rally up to Gunpark where they paid tributes to the Martyrs’ Memorial before walking into the Assembly premises to file nominations.
