Suspension of Congress legislators undemocratic, autocratic: Ponnam | Published: 14th March 2018 | Posted Date: Wednesday 14th March 2018 05:42 PM

TPCC vice-president and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar has strongly condemned the expulsion of two Congress legislators and suspension of 11 others for the rest of the budget session. labelling it as an “undemocratic and autocratic decision” of the TRS government.

He said the TRS government had made the hurling of headphones at the Speaker into a big issue leading to disciplinary action against the legislators, to escape being grilled over its alleged anti-people policies. He alleged that the government had targeted S.A. Sampath Kumar since he had approached the court against legislators defecting to TRS.

In a press note here today, he reminded that even in Lok Sabha, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh MPs were in the podium demanding the implementation of AP State Reorganisation Act since last five days, but the Speaker had not suspended anyone, but merely postponed the meeting.

Recollecting the passage of Telangana Formation Bill in Parliament, he said that an MP had used pepper spray on him and the Speaker Meira Kumar.

The Speaker, in a democratic manner, had passed the Telangana Bill, he said, and flayed the TRS government for its undemocratic and autocratic rule in Telangana.

He demanded that the TRS government rethink its decision on the expulsion and suspension of Congress legislators, presenting the video recordings before the Assembly.
