The Archaeological Department along with the officials of the GHMC remove encroachments at the Dabeerpura Darwaza on Tuesday morning.

Hyderabad: The Archaeological Department officials along with the GHMC authorities cleared the encroachments around the Dabeerpura Darwaza.

A few shops had come up abutting the historical  structure located on the Dabeerpura and were ‘posing’ danger to the edifice. The DC on June 25 highlighted about the condition of the door and the edifice.

On Tuesday, the Archaeological Department authorities with the assistance of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) staff had removed the encroachments and cleared up the area.

“As of now we have cleared the encroachments around the gate and will soon take up repairs and conservation works,” said an official of the Department of Heritage, Telangana.

The darwaza is one of the two gates of the yore years remaining in the city. The gate was a part of the massive fortification wall with its doors and wickets that encircled the city and was constructed to prevent any enemy attack. The door has now cracked and pieces of wood have peeled off. The bottom of the door has got damaged.

The gate, built in the early 18th century, is flanked on either side by octagonal tower     bastions. It was one of the 14 gates for entry and exit into the city.  A circular wall of six   miles existed around the city. But only a small portion survived.

The corporation has also removed permanent encroachments near iconic Charminar, which have obstructing the Charminar Pedestrianisation Project.
