Telangana State Forest officials from Kerameri Forest Range in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district on Wednesday seized road-laying machinery belonging to a private contractor for widening the Kerameri ghat road falling under Reserve Forest without due permission.
Kerameri Forest Range Officer Syed Mazharuddin said a case under Forest Conservation Act, 1980 has been booked against the persons involved in laying of road.
The Forest Range Officer told The Hindu that the contractor had started widening the 6-km ghat road falling under Bheempur block and compartment number 526, without the required permission to do so. This had caused damage to the local environment, he maintained.
The seizure included a blade tractor and a road roller.
There were tippers which were also involved in the work but were not located on the work site when the forest officials seized the machinery.
Mr Harish Rao has been representing the constituency since 2004.
