Government employees have to put up with a deferral of salaries this month.

Hyderabad: The Telangana state government on Monday decided to impose a pay cut on all classes of employees next month, ranging from 10 per cent to 75 per cent depending upon rank.

A meeting held at the chief minister’s office resolved that this was necessary in view of the very poor inflows into the state's treasury and the need to deploy resources in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic.

Government officials put a spin on the decision, saying this was not a pay cut but only a deferment.

The salary cut, or deferment, will apply to every class of employee including Class Four staff and pensioners.

Central services officers (IAS, IPS IFS, etc) will take a cut of 60 per cent; state service officers 50 per cent.

For Class IV employees, outsourcing staff and contract employees, the cut will be 10 per cent cut.

All category of pensioners will have to accept a 50 per cent cut.

Retired class four employees will have a 10 per cent cut.

There salary cut will apply to the chief minister, ministers, MLCs, MLAs, corporation chairpersons and local bodies representatives as well. Their cut will be 75 per cent.
