Hyderabad: Health minister Etala Rajendar said Rs 25 crore will be allotted to restore the heritage building housing the Osmania General Hospital and four new towers will be constructed on the premises.

Mr Rajendar, who visited the hospital on Tuesday morning, reviewed the draft designs along with OGH doctors and director of health and medical education Dr Ramesh Reddy and said the work would begin soon.

The heritage building is in a poor state and plaster from the ceiling keeps falling off.

Dr P. Naik, chairman of the Osmania General Hospital Joint Action Committee, stated the doctors wanted the new buildings to be built but the old ones to be restored.

The towers will be constructed where the dhobi ghat and the dilapidated nursing hostel now stand. Mr Rajendar asked the engineering department to produce modified sketches which will be re-evaluated and pushed for approval.
