Protests were held at the directorate of medical health department and Osmania University against the government for increasing the retirement age of government professors and doctors.  

Hyderabad: The Telangana Junior Doctors Association said on Tuesday that its members would boycott out-patient services on Wednesday at all the government hospitals in the state. The doctors will stage a dharna on the hospital premises against the government proposal to increase the age of retirement of doctors.

Protests were held at the directorate of medical health department and Osmania University against the government for increasing the retirement age of government professors and doctors.

The proposed age hike is from 58 years to 65 years for doctors and 61 years for professors. Unemployed youths gathered at OU and demanded that the government not to increase the retirement age and give jobs to the youth instead. As a mark of protest, they tonsured their heads and demanded that the existing vacancies be filled with educated youth.

Assistant professors and junior doctors protested in the office of the health department at Koti.

A senior government doctor on condition of anonymity explained, “The director of medical education is retiring and for that reason this proposal is being brought forward.”

Between June 15 and June 17, the TS government issued a notification for contract recruitment of professors, associate professors for the Nalgonda and Suryapet Medical Colleges.

The TJDA stated that the health department is recruiting professors on contract while increasing the the age of retirement.
